Approximately Up Save System & Time Rewind

Three different things called saving

People searching for how to save in this game are usually asking one of three questions, and they have different answers:

  1. Saving progress — the game’s Steam feature list includes Save Anytime and Steam Cloud.
  2. Saving a ship design — that is blueprinting, covered in the blueprints guide.
  3. Undoing a mistake — that is either Undo in build mode or Time Rewind in flight, and they are not the same thing.

Time Rewind is not a save

Time Rewind rolls the simulation backwards. It sits in the Time Controls menu, which patch 1.0.100 expanded on August 21, 2026 to also hold Pause and Fast Forward — all three working in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Two achievements are built entirely around refusing to use it:

  • No Rewinds! — complete an objective without using Time Rewind.
  • Golden Thruster — complete every objective without using Time Rewind.

That makes Golden Thruster the hardest thing in the game, and it is why the Objectives Log completion percentage added in patch 1.0.006 is useful: it is the closest thing to a progress bar for a run you cannot rewind.

One technical detail matters if you automate: patch 1.0.104 fixed the Delay block’s internal values not being saved to Time Rewind savepoints. A rewind before that patch could leave a logic circuit in a state that did not match the world it rewound into.

Undo, in build mode

Patch 1.0.110 added Undo and Redo with up to 200 steps of history — Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y by default, with a swap option added the same day for layouts where those keys sit badly.

The keybind bug that looked like a save bug

If you ever changed a control and found it reverted, that was a real defect with a specific shape. Until patch 1.0.105 on August 26, 2026, key bindings only saved when you left a seat. Entering a seat, changing a binding, then quitting to the Main Menu lost the change. They now save immediately whenever you edit them.

Multiple save files

Whether you can keep more than one save is an open question in the Steam discussions, and it draws real search volume. No patch note or store text answers it, so this page does not either — what is confirmed is Save Anytime and Steam Cloud from the official feature list, and nothing beyond that.

The full published keybind list, with the patch that established each one, is on the controls page.
