Approximately Up Parts & Blocks Reference

61 blocks, grouped by the job they do rather than by where they sit in the inventory. Every entry is a component named in a developer patch note, a Steam achievement or the store description, and where a patch changed something the version number is given. Blocks whose stats the developer has never published are listed with what they do and nothing more — this page does not invent numbers, which is why you will see "not published" instead of a plausible-looking figure.

Patch baseline: 1.0.110, released August 31, 2026.

Frames & Structure 4

Everything starts with a single frame piece. The port-bearing variants are what let cables and components attach without extra plumbing.

Block What it does Patch record
Frame Quarter With Ports added 1.0.009 Frame segment with cable ports on its faces. Patch 1.0.009 made a port appear on the opposite side of the whole connected frame chain when you plug one side, and kept the A/B/C/D port labels matching at both ends. 1.0.011 added contact areas to those ports so components can attach directly. 1.0.104 fixed a case where the ABCD labels could still mismatch.
Nanoframe Quarter With Ports Smaller frame variant with the same port behaviour. Patch 1.0.010 fixed incorrectly assigned renderers that could make visually connected ports mismatch.
Middle Window Window panel for the hull. Geometry fixed in 1.0.009.
Plating Hull plating fitted over frames. Named by the search demand around 'how to plate frames' — one of the most-asked build questions.

Thrusters & Propulsion 6

Fuel thrusters come in three sizes; RCS handles attitude. Which of them works depends on the atmosphere you are in — the Moon has one, which surprises most first-time pilots.

Block What it does Patch record
Small Fuel Thruster Smallest fuel-burning main thruster. No published changes
Medium Fuel Thruster Mid-size fuel thruster. Patch 1.0.009 updated its paintable area to match the Small and Large versions.
Large Fuel Thruster Largest fuel thruster. No published changes
RCS Thruster Reaction control thruster for pitch, yaw and roll. The most-searched troubleshooting term on this game: 'rcs not working' and 'which side is down for thrusters' both rank in the top search terms.
RCS Controller Routes attitude inputs to the RCS thrusters. Patch 1.0.010 swapped Yaw and Roll on its front panel so the labels match the output ports on the back.
Electric engines Electric propulsion, powered from the ship's battery bank. Listed in the store description alongside fuel engines and mixed fuels.

Power & Cabling 8

Power is a system, not a stat. Generation, storage, distribution and the fuse that cuts it all off are separate blocks you wire yourself.

Block What it does Patch record
Battery Stores power for the ship. No published changes
Large Disposable Battery Single-use high-capacity battery. Preview fixed in 1.0.006.
Accumulator Power storage component. No published changes
Solar Panels Passive power generation. Store description lists them among the parts that make heat-resistant, long-range builds possible.
Autohemisphere Solar Panels Self-orienting solar panel variant. Patch 1.0.008 fixed them not returning to their original position after leaving Fly Mode.
Fuse Box Cuts power when a threshold is crossed. 1.0.006 fixed it being unable to turn back on. 1.0.104 changed the value that triggers it.
Plasma Cables High-capacity cabling. Made paintable in 1.0.008.
Cable holders The small stick that connects a cable to the nearest frame. Since 1.0.008 painting a cable also paints its holder.

Sensors & Meters 15

This is the layer that separates a ship that flies from a ship that lands. Most of these output a raw number you then have to route somewhere useful.

Block What it does Patch record
Altimeter Height above the surface. No published changes
Inclinometer Ship attitude relative to level. No published changes
Axis Rotometer Reports rotation on the local axes. Two patches in two days: 1.0.006 made it output correctly signed values for the local axes, 1.0.008 fixed its hitbox and the remaining issues. Players search for it as 'rotameter' — the in-game spelling is Rotometer.
Trajectory Curvature Meter Reports how much your path is bending. The top search around it is where to plug it in, not what it does.
Velocity Meter Current speed readout. No published changes
Vertical Meter Vertical speed readout. No published changes
Distance Meter Short-range distance to a target. Close-range collision detection improved in 1.0.105.
Long Range Distance Meter Long-range distance readout. Patch 1.0.100 moved its calculation from float to double precision; 1.0.105 improved its close-range collision detection.
Magnetometer Magnetic field sensor. Power draw cut from 15 P/s to 5 P/s in patch 1.0.110 — one of the few published block numbers in the game.
Thermometer Temperature readout. Reported broken after an update and fixed in 1.0.105.
Space GPS added 1.0.104 Outputs distance, longitude and latitude relative to the centre of the universe. Added in 1.0.104. Must be mounted outside the ship with at least 60% free space around it to work. One is granted as the reward for the Tree Lid mission on Baobara.
Massmeter added 1.0.104 Measures the mass of the ship it is mounted on, updating automatically after decoupling. Added in 1.0.104. Three are granted for the Operation Ghostfire mission on the Moon.
Space Scanner Scanning instrument. Got its own manual entry in 1.0.104; the localisation for that page was fixed in 1.0.105.
Fuel Analyzer Reads fuel state. 1.0.007 fixed its mode knob not being saved into blueprints.
Gyro-Line Attitude reference line drawn across the view. Patch 1.0.100 highlighted its middle line to make screen centre easier to see. Wiring it is a top-searched task in its own right.

Logic & Automation 6

The in-game logic layer is why players build auto-hover and auto-landing systems instead of flying manually. Gates, delays and rounding are all separate blocks.

Block What it does Patch record
Logic Gate OR OR gate. Shipped behaving like an AND gate; fixed in patch 1.0.005.
Logic blocks The gate family used to combine signals. 1.0.100-era reports of logic parts sending an erroneous signal on the first frame of Fly Mode are an open discussion thread, not a closed patch note.
Delay Holds a signal for a set time. 1.0.104 fixed its internal values not being saved to Time Rewind savepoints.
Round Rounds a value. 1.0.104 changed its Round mode so values exactly halfway between two integers go up.
Braking Point System (BPS) Automated braking system. 1.0.010 added support for entering negative speed values, which are read as absolute values. Players write it both ways — braking point and breaking point — and search both.
Integer / Float switches Toggle a component's output type. 1.0.012 changed every one of them to default to Float, because most components output values in the 0-1 range.

Controls & Input 8

Levers, joysticks and switches are physical objects you mount and then wire — including to each other.

Block What it does Patch record
Joystick Analogue input stick. No published changes
Joystick 3D Three-axis input stick. No published changes
Joystick Splitter Splits one stick's output to multiple destinations. No published changes
Lever Vertical Half Half-height vertical lever. 3D model fixed in 1.0.104.
Small Switch Two-state switch. Geometry fixed in 1.0.009.
Small Button Momentary button. Geometry fixed in 1.0.009. Making a single press send a continuous signal is one of the most-searched wiring questions.
Stick Switch Stick-style switch. Geometry fixed in 1.0.009.
Remapper Remaps an input signal. No published changes

Data, Display & Transmission 8

Getting a number from a sensor to a screen — or to another ship — is its own set of blocks.

Block What it does Patch record
Camera Feeds a view to a monitor. 1.0.009 fixed the camera being locked in Cinematic Mode while seated.
Camera Overlay Overlays data on a camera feed. 1.0.011 added integer/float display switches to its inputs. 1.0.010 stopped an unpowered overlay from painting white noise over the primary input.
Monitor Displays a camera or data feed. No published changes
Datameter Numeric readout block. 1.0.011 added an integer/float display toggle.
Large Datameter Larger numeric readout. Same integer/float toggle added in 1.0.011.
Wireless Transmitter added 1.0.009 Sends a signal without cabling. Its real range is 2000 m. The in-game description said 100 m until patch 1.0.009 corrected it — 100 m was the Demo value. Labels were added to transmitters in 1.0.011.
Writable labels Text labels you place on the ship. 1.0.110 flagged unconnected components in H mode after loose labels were traced as a cause of ships breaking apart mid-flight. Rotating labels 180 degrees is on the developer's near-term list.
Whiteboard Writable surface. No published changes

Utility & Cargo 6

The blocks that make a ship usable rather than just flyable.

Block What it does Patch record
Doors Hull access. Emergency opening when a door loses power in a crash is on the developer's announced near-term list (devlog 2026-08-17).
Jetpack Personal flight outside the ship. 1.0.105 fixed being unable to jump on airless planet surfaces; 1.0.104 removed jumping in space entirely, because it could push you away from your ship with no way back.
Ballast Mass you add on purpose. One of the highest-volume part searches for this game, which fits a physics sim where centre of mass decides whether you land or tumble.
Packages Mission cargo you carry and mount. 1.0.100 improved package depenetration for the Tree Lid and Hazard Barrel. 1.0.110 made packages immune to wind before first touch and fixed a physics bug where moving one in front of a running thruster launched it with extreme force.
Rimcore Turbopump Pump component. Named by players discussing its power consumption; no published figure.
Secret drum kit Hidden joke item. Has its own community guide on Steam and shows up in search as 'approximately up drums'.

Parts list checked against Steam patch notes:

Which of these earn the mass they cost is a separate question — the parts tier list ranks them by how often they decide a flight. For where the two newest blocks come from, Tree Lid and Operation Ghostfire are their mission rewards.
