Approximately Up Part Tier List (September 2026)

Last updated: 2026-09-01

Ranked by how often a block decides whether a flight ends in a landing or a crater, using the patch record and what players actually search for when a build fails. This is a build-priority ranking, not a stat comparison — the developer has not published per-block numbers, so none are invented here.

S Tier

Name Role Why
RCS Controller + RCS Thrusters Attitude Nothing else on the ship matters if you cannot point it. The single most-searched failure in this game is RCS not working, and patch 1.0.010 had to swap Yaw and Roll on the controller's front panel because the labels did not match the output ports.
Frame Quarter With Ports Structure Three separate patches went into its port behaviour. It is what turns a pile of blocks into something you can wire without threading cable through the whole hull.
Altimeter Sensor Landing is the hard part of every route, and altitude is the number you need earliest. It shows up in search both as its own term and attached to the game name.

A Tier

Name Role Why
Gyro-Line Attitude reference Wiring it is a searched task in its own right, and 1.0.100 highlighted its centre line specifically to make the screen centre readable during approach.
Massmeter Sensor Added 1.0.104 and updates automatically after decoupling — which is exactly when your thrust-to-mass assumptions stop being true.
Space GPS Navigation Added 1.0.104. Outputs distance, longitude and latitude from the Sun, but only works mounted outside with 60% free space around it.
Battery + Fuse Box Power The fuse is what stops one shorted subsystem from taking the ship with it. It could not be turned back on until patch 1.0.006.

B Tier

Name Role Why
Braking Point System Automation Automates the deceleration most players get wrong on first approach. Accepts negative speed values as absolutes since 1.0.010.
Long Range Distance Meter Sensor Moved to double precision in 1.0.100, which matters over interplanetary distances.
Wireless Transmitter Signal 2000 m range, not the 100 m its description claimed until 1.0.009. Useful for detached modules and probes.
Solar Panels Power Free power at the cost of orientation. The Autohemisphere variant self-orients.

C Tier

Name Role Why
Magnetometer Sensor Situational, but cheap to run since 1.0.110 cut its draw from 15 P/s to 5 P/s.
Trajectory Curvature Meter Sensor More players search for where to plug it in than for what it reads, which tells you where it sits on the learning curve.
Whiteboard and writable labels Quality of life Pure organisation — until 1.0.110, an unattached label could actually destroy your ship mid-flight.

Tier list revised:

Ranked by consequence, not by stats the developer has never published. Every block here is described in full on the parts reference, and the first ship guide puts the S-tier four together in the order they need to be mounted.
